Icon – white spot treatment with our dentist in Bromley.

Icon is a revolutionary treatment that can improve the appearance of white spots or the mottled appearance of teeth with no drilling.

What causes white spots?

White spots are very common and can be caused by a range of factors, including:

Fluorosis – this occurs when there is a very high fluoride intake when the adult teeth are developing.
Decalcification – this is the loss of minerals from the enamel and can occur during fixed brace treatment if there has been a lapse in excellent oral hygiene around the brackets, as it is difficult to brush your teeth.
“Molar Incisal Hypoplasia”.
White spots on adult teeth due to trauma as a baby.

How can they be treated?

Many people mistake the white spots or mottled appearance of their teeth for staining and think that the overall colour of the tooth can be improved by teeth whitening. However, this would have little effect as the white spots will still remain a lighter colour than the rest of the tooth.

In the past, the only way to treat teeth with white lesions was to cover these up with composite bonding or veneers. These types of treatments require the removal or destruction of healthy tooth material and are not favoured by modern dentists.

At Rochester Lodge Dental Practice, our Bromley Dentist offers a treatment called Icon, which can restore the natural colour of your tooth with no need for drilling. This minimally invasive technique uses a process of infiltration to blend the white spots in with the rest of the tooth.

I was recently referred to Rochester Lodge by my dentist for a root canal with Dr James Aquilina due to a chronic infection. I was a bit worried beforehand, but instantly felt at ease during the consultation. James is very calming and explained all the options available to me clearly. I decided to go ahead with the treatment and am very glad I did. It was completely painless during the procedure, only some short lived tenderness for a few hours after and all done in one visit (although was made aware it might be two). I feel so much better now and my dentist was pleased with the final x-ray taken

I visited Rochester Lodge Dental Practice today as I needed a composite filling to be done.I am a very nervous patient,but trusted my lovely dentist Ali with the job in hand. He was absolutely brilliant and completed the my filling so swiftly and comfortably for me! The injection bit was the worst and a bit painful, but I numbed up quickly and Ali set to work. I had an outstanding Root Canal treatment with James Aquilina. After having a tooth infection and being in severe pain for a few weeks, James sorted the issue completely. He was very clear and detailed, using medical imaging to highlight the problem, explain my options, and make me feel comfortable with the correct type of treatment. The root canal procedure was then very smooth, I barely felt any pain, was really relaxed and calm. The treatment was a success, it has been 1 month now and i have had no problems or pain at all, the issue seems to have been resolved. Would highly recommend James to anyone for root canal.

A fantastic practice! I first started seeing Dr O’Brien some 20 years ago. However, after moving very far away I eventually switched dentists (after still travelling hours to Bromley for a few years as I really did not want to have to find a new dentist).The service was never the same at my new surgery, and the customer focussed attention just was not there. This came to a head a month or so ago, so I decided to get back in touch with Rochester Lodge. They were nothing short of amazing and to my delight, Dr O’Brien was still there!I’ve now re-registered and have had three wonderful visits (and I do mean wonderful as I had some serious pain and problems that were resolved professionally).All the staff there, including reception and the nurse have been so welcoming and most have worked there for years. Nice touch is that they remember you!Rochester Lodge is again now our family dentist, even if it takes up half the day to get there and back!

Ali and his assistant are just amazing - they are friendly, interested in you and really helped to make my kids feel at ease when they had to undertake some extractions recently. I see Dr Ghomessi.I cannot stress what a wonderful dentist he is. After 60 years of a phobia of dentists he managed to cure this after a couple of appointments. Now I feel confident in attending and completely trust his expertise. I am SO happy with the service, results and price for my Invisalign journey at Rochester Lodge. Dr Ali is absolutely fantastic - he really takes time, care and pride with his patients. He thoroughly explained every step of the journey and offered helpful and considered advice when discussing options. I had Invisalign trays for just over 6 months, then opted for teeth whitening and composite bonding to give the desired end result (which by the way, was amazing!). Having had consultations with other Invisalign dentists, I can confidently recommend Dr Ali over other dental surgeries.
